Fly fishing trip in Argentine Patagonia

Northern Neuquén province, at the gateway to Argentine Patagonia, holds more than 400 km of lightly fished rivers running with wild brown and rainbow trout. I design roving fishing trips there for three to six anglers, guided on the water by the certified team at Patagonia Trashumante and their years of experience, while I look after you, as host and interpreter, from the first day to the last. The season runs from November to late April.

Every fly angler has heard of Patagonia at some point. I have been travelling Argentina for more than fifteen years. I share my life with Daniela, who comes from the Mendoza region, and it is a little further south, in Neuquén province, that I take you to discover the extraordinary wealth of a place few people know, well away from the beaten tracks of mass tourism. The area offers all kinds of water, rivers of every character, along with beautiful lakes.

Trout numbers are striking, in the lakes as much as the rivers, and good fish are common. Rainbows and browns whose fight is never won in advance. Some places hold real surprises. For the more adventurous, days on horseback with the gauchos can be arranged à la carte, on top of the trip.

The authenticity of northern Patagonia

I set great store by keeping the trip authentic. Asado, chivito a la llama and traditional Argentine dishes cooked at the water’s edge and washed down with Malbec: local produce, honest regional cooking, meals that count as much as the fish. And what better match for a good chivito a la llama than a Malbec from Mendoza province, world-famous for its wine. We turn every meal into a moment of sharing and easy company, something Argentina does like nowhere else.

How I accompany you

On the water, it is the guides of Patagonia Trashumante, native to the region and certified, who guide you. My part is to design the trip with them, to accompany you from the first day to the last, to interpret, and, as a certified casting instructor, to take the time to correct any movements that might be making your fishing harder. To make the most of the fishing in this remarkable region, it helps to have sound basics for an organised trip: we will take the time to iron out any awkward mechanics that could get in your way.

Do you need to be an experienced angler to come?
No. The trip adapts to your level. What matters is the wish to improve and a little patience with the water.
Who guides on the water?
Patagonia Trashumante and their whole team of certified local guides, licensed to guide on Argentine soil. I design the trip with them and I am at your side from start to finish.
When is the best time to come?
The season runs from November to late April. Its heart, December to late March, is the prime window. Early and late in the season, streamer and nymph can still fish beautifully.
